ARAU, 28 March – Despite having just recovered from a knee injury, Mohammad Firdaus Jamen or Hulk Malaysia proved that his mettle is unbeatable by winning Brunei’s Strongest Man and Woman event at Harun's Gym and Fitness Centre, Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium recently.
He managed to bring home a medal, a RM3000 cash prize and a certificate of participation beating four other participants in the Men's Open category.
Mohammad Firdaus, 25, who underwent a surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon ten months ago was victorious in six out of the seven routines arranged by the organizer. more
Nilai, 30 Mac – A Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) student was awarded the Science, Technology and Innovation Programme Leadership Award in conjunction with Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Kebangsaan 2018 which was held at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), here.
The student Muhammad Nurfiqri Mohd Hajar hails from the School of Business Innovation and Technopreneurship (PPIPT). He succeeded bringing home a cash prize of RM1,000 along with a trophy and a certificate.
The award was presented by Dato' Kamel bin Mohamad, Deputy Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM).
Apart from Muhammad Nurfiqri, another two UniMAP students, Aqila Natasya Allawi and Shahrun Nizam Shahrun Nahar, also won the Director General's Special Awards for outstanding achievements in 2018. more
PAUH PUTRA, 10 April – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) via the Gyro society (GYROS) Club and the School of Manufacturing Engineering Staff Club organised the Jejak BAKTI 2.0 Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Guar Nangka in Mata Ayer here recently.
The one-day programme was collaborated by the Perlis State Education Department and participated by 45 students and 25 staff members from the School of Manufacturing Engineering.
Dean of the School of Manufacturing Engineering Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noorhafiza Muhammad said that the welfare and community programme was held to inculcate the community-friendly attitude between UniMAPstaff and the local community.

Kangar, April 11 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Senior Deputy Registrar Mohd Saad Din was appointed the new Registrar of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) effective April 1.
He previously worked at the Human Resource Section of the USM Registrar Department and was due for compulsory retirement in March before being appointed as UniMAP Registrar until January 2021 to replace Tuan Zuber Mohamed who had also undergone compulsory retirement on January 15.
Mohd Saad, a Telok Cengai-native with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from USM, began his career with the university on 1 April 1986 and ended his service at the age of 58.
He possesses an extensive 32-year experience in human resource management at the Penang-based university before being appointed UniMAP's 4th Registrar today.
Earlier, UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato' Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal attended the Handover Ceremony for the handover of duties between former UniMAP Registrar Zuber and Mohd Saad at the Vice Chancellor's Office here today.
12 APRIL – More than 40 student leaders from the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) gathered and camped out to participate in the Kembara Ilmu held at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) recently.
The five-day programme was packed with discussions about the direction of the MTUN Universities towards the Student Union and the contribution of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and MTUN to the industry.
According to the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Student Council Digital and Publicity Executive Committee Member Muhamad Zikry Mohd Zulkaflee, they discussed the recommended policies and framework that have been established by each MTUN university to strengthen the student organisational structure.
"After detailed discussions, we agreed that the Student Union will be a platform for students to maturely administrate the organisation without any interference from the university.
"In fact, the administrative structure of the Student Unions at MTUN universities will be different from other public universities," he said when contacted. more
KANGAR, 13 March – Fortune smiled upon Universiti Malaysia Perlis graduate Nur Dinie Zubir when she was recently offered a job after winning awards at the C.Drive Program organised by Continental Automotive Components Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
After being anointed the recipient of the Best Project Award (Gold Medal) and the Excellence Award (Gold Medal), the Bachelor of Electronic Engineering Technology (Electronic Network Design) graduate from UniMAP Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK) was offered a position as a Junior Software Engineer at the company which was based in Pulau Pinang.
When contacted, Nur Dinie attributed the event as doubly fortunate as she did not expect to be simultaneously conferred the awards and offered a job.

KANGAR, March 12 – A researcher from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) School of Materials Engineering Assoc Prof Dr. Ong Hui Lin was selected as the recipient of the Endeavour Leadership Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship Award 2019.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato 'Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the award would allow Dr. Ong to undergo a short-term attachment program at Deakin University, Geelong, Australia which would enable the researcher to carry out his research work.
According to him, the award sponsored by the Australian Department of Education and Training in collaboration with Cheung Kong Infrastructure (Holdings) Limited aims to promote the exchange of knowledge between researchers and students from Australia and other Asian countries.

Putrajaya, 8 March – The Centre of Excellence Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) research team of HAAS Solution Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) won the third place at the National Parcel Drone Competition yesterday.
The team was led by Prof Dr Hazry Desa (Director), En. Zambri Ibrahim (Leader - GCS & Mission Planner), En Khairi Hazir (Pilot), En Abd Mu'iz (Co-pilot/Video Observer) and En Azmie (Technical) and managed to score a trophy and a cash prize of RM7,000.
The prize was presented by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex.
Also present during the ceremony was Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor, the Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Group. more
Kangar, 10 March – In providing the exposure and appreciation of several aspects of soft skills such as loving nature, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is offering the Human and Nature Sustainability Co-Curricular Course to students.
This is the first course of its kind to be offered at UniMAP under the coordination of the Sustainable Campus Coordinator Dr Siti Khadijah Zaaba and participated by 40 registered students.
The course briefing was delivered by Dr Siti Khadijah and initiated by Ts Dr Irnis Azura Zakarya who delivered a lecture on composting, including the techniques used to make compost from waste food.
According to Dr Siti Khadijah, besides the briefing, the students were also taught how to make compost by using the Simple Compost System (SKM) located near the Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra (PTSFP) library. more
PAUH PUTRA 24 Feb – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) SUKSIS Corps Contingent won SUTRA (SUKSIS Corps Sports Championship Northern Zone) 2019 which took place from 22 to 23 February.
UniMAP, as the present host of SUTRA won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals in 11 events.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) ACP (KS) Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan who is also the commander of UniMAPSUKSIS Corps said that UniMAP managed to win three gold medals through Men's and Women's Futsal and Women's Handball events.
“We managed to defeat our closest competitor, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which won three gold medals, one silver medal and six bronze medals.” more
