Arau, October 4 - Former Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin has returned to the university after been appointed as the Chairman of the University Board of Directors of UniMAP effective 1st October 2018.

His appointment is to replace Dato' Mohd Sofi Osman for a period of three years effective from 1st October to September 2021.

Dr. Kamarudin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity by the Ministry of Education in appointing him as the Chairman of University Board of Directors of UniMAP.

"I pledge to give UniMAP the best service and I could see few improvements which can be made to drive the university to a brighter future.

"My focus is to provide a better understanding of the university's strategic plan and direction to UniMAP community so that we can move together to enhance UniMAP's glory," he said.

He added that it is impossible for the university to achieve success without the unity of its community and this might happen if UniMAP staff and students are less clear with the goals set by the university.

"Therefore, in order to achieve the goals, I will discuss in depth with UniMAP's top management to reach the consensus and agreement on the direction of the university.

"In addition, with the limited financial circumstances, we need to think of the right mechanism to achieve the expectation at the same time, bring out the visibility of UniMAP in the eyes of the world," he said.

In fact, he will also focus on improving the reputation of the university through the enrolment of students from within and outside the country.

"I would like to see an increase in the number of students from within and outside the country. For that, we will intensify the efforts of popularizing the university so that more young people will love science and technology as well as UniMAP," he added.

For the record, Dr. Kamarudin started as the Rector at Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia (KUKUM) in 2002, who later became the Vice Chancellor after KUKUM was renamed as UniMAP.

He resigned as UniMAP Vice Chancellor in 2016 after serving the university for 14 years and being among the longest serving Vice Chancellors in Malaysia.
